Marching by Faith: A Woman’s Journey from the Battlefield to Evangelism
From Combat Boots to Kingdom Service: A Female Veteran's Journey of Faith and Leadership

When I first put on the Army uniform, I carried more than a rucksack on my shoulders. I carried the weight of expectation — as a young woman stepping into a world where strength, discipline, and resilience were not just admired but required. Years later, I would discover that the same qualities the military demanded of me would become the very qualities God used to call me into a life of evangelism and spiritual leadership.
Courage Beyond the Battlefield
My decision to enlist was driven by curiosity and discovery – a desire to experience the world and prove myself capable. The Army gave me both opportunity and challenge. I learned loyalty, duty, discipline, respect, and integrity, but more importantly, I learned how to lead.
The battlefield taught me that courage is not the absence of fear, but the choice to stand firm in the face of it. As women, we often navigate spaces where we feel underestimated. My military years showed me that strength isn’t about muscle alone — it’s about perseverance, grit, and grace under pressure.
Reinvention After Service
Transitioning to civilian life came with its own trials. Gone was the structure I had grown accustomed to; the cadence, order, and sense of identity I had known disappeared overnight. For many women veterans, the transition can feel like losing a part of ourselves. But it also opens the door to reinvention. Who am I now?
I leaned on mentors, community, and prayer. Slowly, I began to see that leaving the military didn’t mean losing my purpose. Instead, it meant redefining it — carrying forward the values I learned and applying them to a new mission.
A Spiritual Awakening
During quiet moments of self-reflection, I discovered that faith had always been present — but now it was calling louder than ever. The discipline, resilience, and duty I learned in the Army gave me a foundation for something greater: a life of service to God.
Encounters with spiritual mentors and evangelistic missions confirmed this new path. Showing me how the leadership skills I had developed as a soldier could be transformed into tools for ministry — guiding, teaching, and building communities of faith.
Military Leadership to Ministry
Stepping into evangelism meant entering a new kind of training ground — one that required theological study, spiritual discipline, and a willingness to grow in new ways. Yet the leadership skills I gained in uniform became some of my greatest assets. The same strategic thinking, teamwork, and clear communication that once helped me lead soldiers now guide me in leading with faith, building outreach initiatives, and walking alongside others in their spiritual journeys.
What I learned is this: leadership is transferable. The tools women develop in one arena — whether in the military, the workplace, or at home — can be transformed to influence lives in new and meaningful ways.
Just as in the Army, ministry is about people. Relationships remain at the heart of impact. By building authentic connections and serving with compassion, I discovered the deep joy of spreading hope and meeting women and communities exactly where they are. True leadership, I’ve found, is not about commanding from the front — it’s about walking beside others with courage, empathy, and vision.
Lessons for Women of Influence
Every woman faces a battlefield of her own. It may not be combat, but it may be the weight of balancing family and career, overcoming cultural expectations, or rediscovering herself after transition.
Here’s what my journey has taught me:
· Your past prepares you. Every challenge, every lesson, every scar – they all shape your influence.
· Community matters. Surround yourself with women who mentor, uplift, and speak life into your calling.
· Faith fuels courage. When you walk by faith, no battlefield, boardroom, or barrier can diminish your purpose
Marching by Faith, Together
Marching by Faith is more than my story — it is an invitation. An invitation for women to embrace courage, reinvention, and faith as tools of influence. My hope is that other women will see their own story in mine: proof that transformation is possible, that leadership is transferable, and that God calls us to impact lives in ways far beyond what we imagine.
So, I ask you: What new mission is waiting for you? The battlefield may be behind you, but your influence is ahead. Step forward. March by faith.
